Extracting Unambiguous Drone Signature Using High-Speed Camera

In recent years, the use of drones for recreational and commercial activities has grown rapidly due to their affordability performance. This growing raises concerns about threats pose security sensitive areas such as airports, prisons, industrial military facilities. response these threats, detection methods are being actively developed. particular, most camera-based rely on appearance perform detection. They therefore prone error great similarity between some other flying entities birds. However, from a kinematic perspective, unlike birds, drones, especially multicopters, have propeller rotation speed. The method proposed in this paper uses speed key physical parameter which unambiguously distinguish entities. basic idea consists using discrete Fourier transform determine propellers high frame rate videos, extracting induced drone signature quantitative signature. algorithm proceeds follows: continuously tracked sky; transform, applied video stream within time window ending at current instant (frame), is used extract confirm each entity or not. Experimental results obtained consumer-grade camera 240Hz demonstrate effectiveness reliability method.
